SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Foley joined the Communication Studies Department in 2004. Her background in support services education and sign language interpreting led to an interest in conflict management and community dialogue. Her doctoral studies focused on the use of community dialogue to bring about reconciliation and integration in a small city. Dr. Foley continues to study the use and usefulness of community dialogue through her participation in the Harvard Negotiation Insight Initiative (HNII) sponsored by the Program on Negotiation at Harvard University and the Communicating Common Ground (CCG) Program of the National Communication Association. Her recent research and conference presentations are related to intercultural interactions, critical pedagogy, and the notion of "healing" in a community setting.

A student of Hatha yoga for 15 years, Dr. Foley applies aspects of yogic philosophy and the science of energy to the study of interpersonal communication. She is a certified yoga instructor and feels the inclusion of yoga in communication classes leads to a better understanding of the self and increased sensitivity in interactions.

Dr. Foley teaches classes in Interpersonal Communication, Intercultural Communication, Political Communication, Interpersonal and Group Conflict Management, Communication Theory, and Group Discussion.
